Teradata has developed an Access Module, called the Teradata Extension, for the purpose of providing integration between the NetBackup operations and Teradata Database operations for managing backups and restores. The Teradata Extension improves the usability and allows the Teradata Database administrator to administer data protection operations without being a NetBackup expert.

- Improved Reporting – Veritas Backup Reporter in NetBackup 6.5 offers many reports for trending and forecasting. The upcoming release of NetBackup 7.0 will add improved reporting capabilities using Ops Center / Ops Center Analytics.
- Alignment with Enterprise Standards – Customers using Symantec products in their enterprise may find value in consolidating to one backup software application.
NetVault to NetBackup Migration
NetVault customers now have the opportunity to switch to NetBackup, Teradata’s lead backup software application, with free replacement product licenses. These free product licenses are available until 12/31/10.

- Enterprise Media Manager - Centralizes and improves the scalability of NetBackup media and device databases.
- Automatic robotic/tape drive configuration – Enables you to specify policies for the automatic generation of drive names and automatically configure swapped tape drives.
- NetBackup Options customize backup and recovery operations:
- NetBackup Vault is the recommended method to duplicate and track images on tape and/or disk, whether for onsite or offsite storage. It efficiently manages the offline archival storage of image sets according to policies and rules set by the user.
- Image duplication can be scheduled independently of the backup, so as not to impact the backup performance
- Tracks image lifecycle including the location, container, slot, and expiration schedule
- Produces daily vault reports for image injection, ejection, and tracking
- Assists with disaster recovery reporting and time-based site recoveries
- Enables automatic creation of multiple NetBackup catalog images for master server DR recovery
- Virtual Tape Option enables the use of the EMC VTL or other Virtual Tape Libraries
- Shared Storage Option enables the sharing of tape drives among multiple NetBackup domains
- VTL to VTL Replication allows the user to copy directly from one Virtual Tape Library to another using the internal media servers of the VTLs
